The Research Center in Applied Chemistry (Centro de Investigación en Química Aplicada “CIQA” in Spanish), headquartered in Saltillo, specializes in scientific, technological and educational activities for the chemical and polymer industries.
 
With extensive experience in the products of Mexico’s arid zones, the CIQA carries out technological development programs for Candelilla Institute, with a priority focus on the optimization of the Candelilla wax production process and the development of high value products.


The Antonio Narro Autonomous Agrarian University (Universidad Autónoma Agraria Antonio Narro “UAAAN” in Spanish) is a prestigious agricultural university with more than 80 years’ experience in educational and research activities. The university campus is located in Saltillo.
 
The UAAAN operates a research center for the arid zones of Mexico, in which numerous studies have been carried out on the natural resources of these zones. The Candelilla Institute’s sustainable agricultural development projects are handled by the UAAAN, with the priority activities of analyzing the inventory, distribution and preservation of the Candelilla plant.


The Autonomous University of Nuevo León (Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León “UANL” in Spanish) is one of Mexico’s most important institutions of higher learning. The main campus is located in San Nicolás de los Garza, Nuevo León.
 
The Faculty of Biological Sciences of the UANL has carried out a number of important research & development projects involving the resources of the country’s arid zones. Its participation in Candelilla Institute focuses on sustainable development projects, specifically related to botanical analysis, physiology and cultivation strategies for the Candelilla plant.


The Autonomous University of Coahuila (Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila “UADEC” in Spanish) is the state largest institute of higher learning, with branches located in the cities of Saltillo, Torreón and Monclova.
 
The UADEC operates centers for basic and applied research, which have carried out numerous studies on the arid zones of the state of Coahuila. Their participation in projects for Candelilla Institute will concentrates on the socio-economic aspects of the Candelilla Region.


Multiple Services for the Agricultural Companies Development (Semilla A.C. in Spanish), established in the city of Saltillo, is working since 1997 in promoting the social and economical development of communities and companies in the rural sector, mainly in the northern region of Mexico.

Semilla A.C. has participated in an important number of development projects in the semi-arid zones of the Coahuila state, including the creation of cooperatives for a better resources utilization. Their participation in the Candelilla Institute is focused on the development of technical assistance programs, training, project management, as well as negotiation of forest resources.


The Autonomous University of San Luis Potosi (Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí- UASLP in Spanish) is a higher learning institution, aimed to reaching the highest standards of education and research in Mexico. The main campus is located in the city of San Luis Potosi, with three campus located in outlying zones. Its academic model is based on a close collaboration among teaching and basic and applied research.

The UASLP counts with Research Centers and Institutes, being one of them the Postgraduate Study and Research Center of the Chemical Science Faculty (CIEP-FCQ). One of the projects developed in this center is related to the use of Candelilla wax for the elaboration of margarine type products, vegetable oils and coatings, based on vegetable oils with a high oleic acid concentration.
